Musical STYLings

Hello everyone I’m Tonia {tone-ne-ya} of Chic Modern Vintage. Thanks so much to Kalyn for having me over today for such a fun series. Enjoy.

I’m a child of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, the millenium …. I’m a child of the 70s when things were simple and uncomplicated in my mind.  When I knew to be home before the street lights came on and  you knew your next door neighbor. If Mrs. Jackson saw me doing something wrong, I got “whoopin” from her and then she told my parents and I got a “whoopin” again. When you and your friends had fights, but you forgave each other the next day you were out playing with each other like it never happened.

Your all time favorite song? WOW I have so many favorite songs. I grew up in a house where music was played all the time. I have musicians and singers in my family, but since I have to name one it would be James Brown “This is a Man’s World.” Although we don’t like to think so, the words to this song ring true today.

Your all time favorite artist? Prince. Without a doubt. The man is a musical genius. In high school I thought he was so handsome. He still is for that matter.

What does your taste in music say about your personal style? Who knows for sure. Though for some reason I’m drawn to classic clothing pieces and I add the edge with my accessories. I normally do a mix and match. I don’t care for “matchy matchy”  at all. I don’t like outfits. I create ensembles. Therefore I would describe my personal style as classic eclectic.
Favorite Pandora station? I can’t say that have a favorite Pandora station since I have a vast collection of music. Most of which I inherited. I’m slowly transferring my collection to MP3.

Who do you listen to to unwind? Who do I listen to, to unwind? Hummm, it’s hard to say. I do have a playlist that I created to unwind to; it includes artists such as Abbey Lincoln, Sarah Vaughan, Aretha Franklin and Phyllis Hyman to name a few. I love truly talented singers.

Who’s on your inner playlist? The inner playlist? It’s way too many to list.

What song do you hear in your head when you know you’re looking good? Well since you asked. “The Real Thing by Jill Scott.

Who was your biggest influence in terms of your musical taste? My father was my biggest influence on my musical taste. Most Saturday nights, my father would have a party with me and my brother and we would dance all night no matter what kind of music he played.

You have a chance to win American Idol, what song do you sing? I don’t sing well enough to even audition. I’m not delusional. I know my limits.
Thanks for sharing your inner playlist with us Tonia!
